About the Author

W. Keith Powell has a B.S. in Management, and is a third generation “carpenter’s kid” who spent 15 plus years working for the family construction business. He holds multiple state licenses for residential home building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical trades. The author has taught all phases of residential home building at the community college level with an emphasis on modern building science and sustainable construction practices. He has designed, written, and taught contractor’s licensing courses for residential builders, electrical, and plumbing contractors. He is currently the AHR Program Chairman within the Construction Technologies Division of Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC. The author is a certified HERS green rater, LEED GA, and holds several other professional designations.

Garlic just gives vampires bad breath... And they eat bagels. Some of the hardest lessons of all come when he joins the traveling freak show Cirque Du Freak, the show that got him and Steve in trouble in the first place. Readers won't be disappointed by this fast-paced, gory, but strangely amiable sequel. In fact, the plot is much better paced than the first and the dialogue far more natural. There is not much plot here. He and Mr. Crepsley return to the Cirque du Freak. Darren and Evra, a snake-boy, make what is ultimately a tragic friendship with a local boy named Sam and a self-proclaimed "ecowarrior" named R.V. It is R.V. who precipitates the real action as he becomes suspicious of animals disappearing from nearby farms. The first-person narration seems superficial, and there is little depth to Darren's character. That said, Shan creates heart-pounding, page-turning action that will keep kids reading. He certainly knows his horror, and this book cranks up the gore factor a notch or two. Readers will get more information about the genuinely weird denizens of the Cirque du Freak. There are some genuinely horrific, almost painful moments, particularly at the book's tragic climax. Readers will be turning from the page, sickened, and then come back to find out what happens next. Turn your kids onto reading again.

I remember reading this book as a child and loved it back then. I am now an instructional aide for some 6th graders. They really were not invested in reading until I gave them this book. There was one scholar in particular who would not read any book given to them because they were not "good" at reading until they picked this one up. They have read this book enthusiastically and actually want to complete their work quickly so they can get back to reading the book. Any book that can truly change a scholar's perception of reading is truly a marvelous book. I'm glad to get them for the scholars of my class.

Sounds freaky for parents - Vampires!!?? But the topic is treated very humanely. The boy in question is very concerned about his predicament and reluctant to hurt anyone. The series has very positive messages about friendship and responsibility.

A follow-up to "Amo, Amas, Amat..."

This is a companion volume / continuation of his popular "Amo, Amas, Amat" book. As in the first book, the author includes hundreds of Latin mottoes, sayings, bon mots, and proverbs. They are ordered alphabetically, each followed by its pronunciation (in an informal but generally useful transcription), and general sense. Most of the entries have an explanatory sentence or two, giving the background, source, and literal translation. A fun book; helpful to the student of Latin, and entertaining and educational to the general reader. Well worth the money!

This is simply follow-up of "AMO AMAS AMAT & MORE." If you are not familar with Latin phrases, you would be disappointed with this book, since there are many phrases which are not covered in this book, and are covered in "AMO AMAS AMAT & MORE."

I like the Hardcover edition of "AMO AMAS AMAT & MORE" instead of paperback, as the paperback covers are simply easy to be damaged. You can find the hadcover edition of "AMO AMAS AMAT & MORE" @ Amazon Market Place ..... less than $1!!! for Good Used copies w/ Dustjacket. I paid only 69 cents + shipping for a very good used copy (hardcover w/dustjacket), while I paid $3.94 + shipping for a used paperback copy of "VENI, VIDI, VICI."
