sexy shifter series!

This was a really sweet story in a series I have really come to enjoy. The book blurb is a touch misleading as there is night quite as much friction between the lead characters as it implies.

Fred is a really nice character and the kind of independent gal Ms Masters has delivered throughout the series. She is looking for a mate but not trying to sacrifice who she is to make it happen. It is great to see her meet and interact with past characters from the series.

Hektor is bold but not overpowering. I really liked him and his whole approach.

The steam factor is higher in the end of the book than others in the series. I do love a good dessert scene! Yummy!

The story here was sweet but a touch bland. No real drama or outside problems to overcome. Just a simple sweet story of two mates finding each other.

Can not wait to see what is next for the Crossroads, so many possibilities!

The first few books I absolutely loved them. But the last few books didn't seem like the author gave it her all and I was rather disappointed. Well not anymore! If the next book is like this I will definitely be buying it.
I absolutely loved this book. I thought the author got her "groove back". I would definitely recommend this amazing book to anyone and everyone. The whole story was very fulfilling. From start to finish this book was amazing. I hope the next book is just as amazing as this one was.
I can't wait to read the next book.

I really enjoyed the story line, both the bear and the bird getting a good intro before showing up at the crossroads. The story had the usual fun air to it, and the mishaps had me smiling. I felt so bad for the both when things just seemed to keep piling up! I'm very pleased with the new caretaker and her making sure the blueberry muffins have continued. Liked the story line, loved the new characters, and cant wait for another one.

Hoping for a hedgehog to show up sometime! Tho I do love those beavers.

Truly inspiring story

This is truly an inspiring story that I would recommend to ages 10 through adult. It is a true story of a young man that through his faith and determination overcame a devastating accident that changed his life forever and that many would have never survived. There is a lesson to be learned here for all. I laughed, cried, was humbled and amazed by the struggle this man had to endure. I have twin granddaughters that just turned 16 and are ready to drive and I can't wait to get my copy to them to read. An excellent read and an excellent job by the author. Looking forward to the continuation of this story.

Davidson offers story that could be clich�, yet due to the unique point-of-view, insightful storytelling and fully developed characters (obviously the author knew the hero) in Never Surrender, the book becomes one of a triumph, an inspiration and a thought provoking tale of life's twists and turns... proving once again that "Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it."

A collection of papers at best

I am a graduate student of solid mechanics and I have read quite a few books on FEA. Of all the textbooks I have read-this is clearly the worst. The authors don't spend any time to make the material coherent and organized. They seem to have published this book just for the sake of establishing their names in the field. It is basically a collection of research papers on the subject. The worst part of the book is that the authors use excessive verbiage to describe extremely inportant concepts with little or no mathematics. This leaves the readers confused and disoriented. This book is not for those looking for an introductory text and is useless to even those experienced in the field. Avoid this book.

Another student prospective

The comments left are interesting in that all the people teaching from it find it useful, and all the students find it frustrating...there is a trend here!

I agree that the explanations are great in detail and the content practical, but at a graduate level with minimal support from the professor and no TA available, not having examples or solutions (to the odds or evens at the very least) is infuriating. After spending close to $100 for this text, I had to go out to buy another with some problems to make it through my course. Two stars for readability, will pile the other three onto the review for my other text.

If a professor recommends this book for his course, my suggestion would be to go talk to some fellow students who have already taken the course to be sure you know what you are signing up for!

Not an undergraduage text

This book was used to 'introduce' us to finite element analysis. To say the least, the book is very hard to follow. For an undergraduate text book, I don't recommend it at all. The problems are very difficult and assume you have a lot of knowledge on other subjects. Also there are close to no examples. This would be a great book for graduate classes or those seriously interested in the theory, but not for the intro introductory class, unless you have a super great professor. Because of my bad experience with the book, and how I found it difficult to grasp, I give it only two stars.

Good and Useful Book

Mercurial is a really nice, portable, easy to use [which is saying a lot!] source code control system. This is the only paper book available for it. Fortunately, the book very well written, well organized, and nicely developed. The examples actually work and are simple enough, small enough, and complete enough to be useful to type in and work with while reading the book. They make reading the book more of an interactive exercise.

One of the other reviewers gave this book a 2 star rating because there is an incomplete section which sailed past review. He/she doesn't understand the nature of Open Source software development: The book is on line (see below), so if you see something you don't like - don't complain, fix it and share the fix! Ignore that review.

About Mercurial itself: it is the easiest source code control - aka version control, content control, etc - system I've ever used. I started using source code control back with a DOS clone of SCCS, found RCS and switched to that because it was really simple to use [although difficult to organize]. Have also tried CVS and SVN, but kept going back to RCS because of the administrative burden the bigger and better versions impose.

Mercurial makes source code control easy again. Creating and maintaining repositories is inexpensive and easy. Rather than having central repository to maintain and configure, you just type 'hg init; hg add . ; hg ci -m initial-checkin' and you have a brand new repository for whatever project is living in your current directory. To try out something without mangling the basic code, 'cd newdirectory; hg clone repository-directory' and you are now in a clone of the original repository and can hack away. If you like the experiment, you 'hg ci -m like-it; hg push' and it goes back to the main source; if you don't, just delete your trial repository. Rinse and repeat often. It actually makes source code controlled development easy.

So far I haven't found anything in Mercurial I don't like.

Repository vs. repository

I learned how to use Mercurial from this book. My only beef is the confusing use of the term "repository" in this book. Sometimes it's used to mean the .hg metadata directory, sometimes it means the whole directory of your project, which includes the .hg directory. It would have been less confusing to just use the term ".hg directory" when talking about the .hg directory! Maybe it's a Mercurial thing.

This consistent use of terminology really helps clearing up the picture. I wish this book could have adopted such consistent use of the terms.

This book is aggravating! It contains lots of detailed information but sloppy writing makes the material, which is already confusing enough and requires meticulous choice of words to describe the concepts, really harder to understand. For example, the author casually says "a revision of the manifest", implying there can be multiple versions of the manifest, instead of "a revision in the manifest" or even "a revision recorded in the manifest".

I'm about half-way through this book. So far, this is exactly the sort of thing I look for in a technology book. The author explains the subject with obvious enthusiasm (so it doesn't drag), there are lots of examples as well as explanations of "how" and "why".

I think this is currently the only book on Mercurial, but it likely will be the only one you need.

K-Gr. 3. The popular folk song, written by the late Goodman, gets a dynamic, nostalgic treatment. The haunting lyrics re-create a time some 50 years ago when people traveled by train--from Chicago through Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi to New Orleans. McCurdy uses scratchboard-and-watercolor illustrations to bring the lyrics to life, and while the pictures sometimes follow the text too literally, they certainly will have children looking closely. They show the train ride inside and out: the landscape, riddled with junked cars or growing grain; the passengers playing cards in the club car; the engineers and the Pullman porters. McCurdy's overhead perspectives, as the train speeds down the track, are among the most effective. For the many children who have never ridden the train, this captures both the boredom and the exciting difference from everyday life that occurs on a long-distance ride. A useful map introduces the text, but there's no music, a missing piece of an otherwise well-designed package. Ilene Cooper

Not just for kids!

If you love the song, made famous by Arlo Guthrie, you probably like trains. If you like trains, this book is sure to delight you! It's a wonderful tribute to the classic folksong! Steve Goodman composed "The City of New Orleans" while riding the Illinois Central, while observing his fellow passengers and the passing landscape. Who can forget the warm images he recounted: of the old men playing cards, the young mother nursing her baby, the passengers being lulled to sleep by the rhythm of the rails? "Everything in this song actually happened," Goodman once said; "I'm no good at fiction." Michael McCurdy's illustrations, a combination of woodcuts and watercolors, must be seen and savored! The book is aimed toward children, and kids are certain to enjoy it. But I believe it will evoke stronger emotions in baby-boomers who remember the song and how it actually felt to "be gone 500 miles when the day is done".

The legacy continues

I have been playing this song for decades now (YIKES!), and have played it for both my daughters and now my grandson. When the grandson got the book, his mother read it to him, and he was singing the words along with her. The grandfather's legacy lives!

Just a cool, cool book. Very well illustrated. I think it's out of print, so finding a good used copy might be a struggle, BUT, if the kids/grandkids are familiar with the song, the book just fits like a hand in a glove.

Steve Goodman's death came way too early, but his song and book are his legacy for all of us to share with the next generations.

The best train ride ever!

A perfect book for children interested in singing along with a book about riding historic trains. (Actually, Amtrak still runs this train today. See: [...]) Very well illustrated, using scenes imagined and real as described by Steve Goodman in his wonderful folk song, from which the title of the book originates. It is lamentable that this book is out of print, but is still available in many libraries. My 3 year old grandson sings the song from memory as he follows the drawings. At present it is his favorite book.
